Easter: If You’ve Ever Wondered About Jesus, Start Here
You probably know Easter as the holiday with the candy, egg hunts, and maybe a big family lunch.
But what if I told you Easter is way bigger than that?
Not in a guilt-trip, “you should go to church more” kind of way…
But in a this could actually change your life kind of way.
Let’s Start with the Truth About Us
We all mess up.
We lose our temper.
We say things we regret.
We feel shame over things we wish we could take back.
That’s not just a “bad mood” or “being human.” That’s what the Bible calls sin. And while that word might sound outdated or religious, all it really means is this:
We’ve chosen to live life our own way, instead of God’s way.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” ~ Romans 3:23 (NLT)
The result? A disconnection from God. One we can’t fix on our own—no matter how hard we try.
But God Didn’t Leave Us Stuck
Here’s the incredible part:
God didn’t wait for us to come to Him. He came to us.
Jesus—God’s Son—came from heaven, was born into our messy world, lived a life of love and compassion, and then willingly died on a cross to take the weight of our wrongs.
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” ~ Romans 5:8 (NLT) [emphasis added]
But it didn’t end there.
Three days later, Jesus came back to life.
Easter is the day we celebrate that Jesus is alive.
That means hope is alive.
That means death and shame don’t win.
How Do I Start a Relationship with Jesus?
You don’t need a religious resume or a perfect life. You don’t need to know all the Bible stories.
You just need to be honest.
Here’s one way to start—think of the ABCs:
A – Admit You’ve Messed Up
Admit to God that you’ve made mistakes and can’t fix the gap between you and Him on your own.
“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.” ~ 1 John 1:8 (NLT)
B – Believe in Who Jesus Is and What He Did
Believe that Jesus is God’s Son, who died for your sins and came back to life to give you hope.
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” ~ Romans 10:9 (NLT)
C – Confess That You Want to Follow Him
Tell God you want to turn from your way of doing life and follow Jesus from now on.
“For ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” ~ Romans 10:13 (NLT)
This Can Be Your Story
This isn’t about religion.
It’s about a relationship—with the God who knows you, loves you, and gave everything to bring you close again.
If you’re ready, here’s a simple prayer you can say from wherever you are:
“God, I know I’ve made mistakes. I believe Jesus is your Son, and that He died and rose again for me. I want to follow Him. Please forgive me and lead me. Thank You for loving me. Amen.”
If you prayed any open-hearted version of that surrendering prayer (it’s not about your exact words but your heart posture), or if you’re still thinking it through, know this: saying “yes” to Jesus is the first step in a lifelong journey.
When you put your trust in Jesus, your sins are completely forgiven and you are promised eternal life with Him. Your relationship with God is restored, and your future is forever changed.
But while your heart now belongs to Jesus, your old habits and struggles may still try to pull you back. This is where the next step begins—growing closer to God.
As you walk with Him, He’ll begin changing you from the inside out. He’ll help you think differently, respond differently, and love differently. This process of becoming more like Jesus is called sanctification—a big word for what happens as you learn to trust Him more and live for Him each day.
✨ So what happens next? How do you grow closer to God after giving your life to Him?
